Whakatane West Rotary

The Whakatane West Rotary club approached us in April 2010, to assist them with the production and design of a recipe book.

Following an initial discussion with the club, it was decided the book should be a reflection of the Eastern Bay of Plenty lifestyle and culture. It would help promote tourism for the region, generate income for the club and be a book that locals would treasure.

Part of our role was to offer advice on all aspects of the book production, including advertising contracts, book sales and promotion, recipe collection and print. We also attended and helped coordinate the food photo shoots - food photography is a real art!

The first step for us was to coordinate the advertising, which would help fund the production of the book. We felt it was important that the ads fit in with the photographic theme of the book, remain subtle and keep to the overall look and feel of the book. Advertisers were delighted with the end result and many have used their ad in-store or in other promotional material.

After just seven months, Plenty, Whakatane West Rotary Club’s recipe and lifestyle book was launched. This was an incredible effort from everyone involved, as similar projects can take over a year and a half to produce.

The first 4,000 copies sold out in one month.

The CEO of Whakatane’s 1XX radio said it was the best publication the region’s ever produced.
